Dior Dreams

Unboxing the Lady Dior Pouch in gold-tone & Mini Saddle Bag in black velvet.

So, I've never done an unboxing video before, despite having confused feelings towards them I was interested in trying one. It must've been Dior's magical coffers in the Toile de Jouy print which persuaded me because the real joy is in discovering the details. In my Christmas in London post I shared how gift wrapping is a dying art which is a real shame as there is something so special about opening a beautifully packaged item. And nobody does beautiful packaging better than luxury goods (like luxury lipsticks for example). If you’re also a bit gaga about eloquent prints as I am, below some visual delight on Dior’s coffers and creative direction.

Like most of my wardrobe, I purchase luxury goods very selectively, as first mentioned in how to curate the perfect wardrobe. I intend on keeping these treasures for many, many years to come (if I’m fortunate enough to maintain their condition, even pass them down to my children). For this reason I look at what I need. The challenge with this approach is often my mind gets fixated on I ‘need’ something in ‘this colour’ and for ‘this purpose’ and as you and I both know, you don’t always find what you set out looking for.

Alternatively, there might be things I see which I love but I don’t really need (those black shoes are gooorgeous but do I really ‘need’ yet another black pair?) It’s a tough balance because I’m a firm believer of not buying anything unless you fall in love with it. And sometimes that may very well be something you may not need.

With regards to this specific shopping spree, I ‘needed’ an evening bag in a classic colour (you know, the boring ones that will go with most things; black, silver, white, gold and nude).

I knew of the Lady Dior Pouch (the matching clutch to the Lady Dior bag) and I wasn’t in a rush to buy it. That is, until I saw this champagne tone version (now already sold out). It’s more taupe than gold / champagne as I was hoping it would be, but still a really beautiful shade which effortlessly complements various colourful ensembles. The leather and its tasteful iridescent shine really make the quilting pop.

I wasn’t planning on buying another bag but I saw the mini velvet saddle bag in store and I (literally) gasped; I was looking for a black evening bag for quite some time and always hit a brick wall (I was close to buying one from L’alingi in the heart shaped clutch as a novel purchase). I’m in love with most of the Dior bag ranges from the Caro, 30 Montaigne, Bobby and of course Lady Dior. But funnily enough the Saddle I could give or take. This was the first saddle which I fell in love with (and that’s despite the stunning prints and embroideries which have graced the Saddle over the years). The only sticking point is it picks up fluff quite easily. There is a Dior mini saddle in satin available which might have been less maintenance fabric wise, but the velvet deepens the black and looks so much more elegant.

I’ve taken them for a spin and can honestly say they are well worth investing in; beautiful, yet practical, and very comfortable to hold and manage. A rare combination.

Love. Ax
